Have you always dreamed of owning a supercar? Well, why not 3D print yourself one! This is exactly what Sterling Backus decided to do by 3D printing a Lamborghini Aventador with the help of his son. Using inspiration from the video game, Forza Horizon 3, the chassis was designed, and hand-built and the panels were sought from Grabcad and modified for 3D printing. The rest were designed using SolidWorks.

What? How?

The Lamborghini Aventador is not completely 3D printed. Without 3D printing technology, this project would not have been possible or affordable! The sections were mostly printed on a Creality CR10S and a Creality CR10S5 and use a hefty 220 spools of filament! Around 50 of these were down to bad prints which is to be expected, therefore the parts need to be encapsulated with carbon fibre to ensure strength and rigidity, so it all holds up. The parts that require a stronger material, such as Nylon, ABS and ASA were printed on a QIDI Xpro

What about the none printed parts?

For the parts not printed, these consisted of the chassis, engine, axles, tyres and the structural components. These include the inner doors, windows etc. The engine for this project being used is a V8 5.7 litre LS1 from a 2003 Chevy Corvette, in addition to a Porsche 911 transaxle as well as a lot of OEM parts.

How much??

£16,000 is what has been invested in 3D printing a Lamborghini Aventador so far compared to over £270,000 it would cost to buy, and as a result, if you are wanting the STL files, unfortunately, this is a one-off project and not for sale.
